The company started life in February 1996 after a management buyout of an educational arm of the National Remote Sensing Centre, now Airbus, when Wildgoose Publications Ltd was set up by three members of their educational team. At that time, they were focused solely on Geography based products including Maps, Posters, Aerial Photos and Photopacks.
Wildgoose Publications then also embarked on aerial surveys and offered this data alongside their educational work. After growing significantly, and briefly becoming part of Getmapping PLC, the company was bought back in 2003 by some of the original team and Wildgoose Education was set up alongside their new company Bluesky International, who still supply the Aerial Imagery used in the ever popular “Our School” range of resources and are internationally renowned leaders in aerial survey.
Over the years the subject range of resources expanded to include History products and then later RE, Foreign Languages, Early Years, Maths, English and more.
The Wildgoose team has expanded too, allowing many more unique resources to be created including award winning Photopacks, Project packs and Local Area Study Cases. These were sold alongside a selection of Globes, Atlases, Books and other equipment in a Wildgoose Catalogue which was sent to every Primary School in the U.K.
The current owners acquired the company in December 2016 after working for and managing the business for nearly 10 years, continuing the innovative, creative and customer focused ethos that started 23 years ago.
Wildgoose products can now be found in all of the education supplier catalogues and websites, and are sold direct to schools and customers through an online store (www.wildgoose.education), as well as via platforms such as Amazon, TES, etc.
Michael has worked in the educational sector for nearly 30 years, starting as a lab technician at Calder Colours (Ashby) Ltd, a local Art Materials manufacturer. Kim also worked at Calder Colours and since their first date (7th Nov 1991) have been (and regularly worked) together ever since. Kim is also Café Manager at Rebound Trampoline Park (Ashby) dividing her time between the two companies.
Mark joined Wildgoose in 2015 after working at Hollister Services Ltd, Castle Donington, supplying samples of hygiene products around the world.
Mark is an avid Leicester City fan and Michael is a long-suffering Tottenham fan. 2017 had a bit of an atmosphere as Leicester (amazingly) won the Premier League with Spurs eventually finishing 3rd (behind Arsenal) after being in contention. (I’m over it now)
